September 2026 Futures Rollover: How to Update Your Trade Copier Copy Rules (ESU6 → ESZ6)
Roll week is September 10–11 and the ES/NQ September contracts expire September 18. This guide shows SyncFutures users exactly how to update copy rules from ESU6 to ESZ6 (ESU26 → ESZ26 on some platforms) before your rules go silent.

Introduction
Roll week for Q3 2026 started September 10. Volume crosses over during the Thursday and Friday sessions (September 10-11), and by the Monday September 14 session most of it sits in the December contracts. The official CME roll date is September 14, and the September contracts expire on September 18.
If you run a trade copier — specifically if your copy rules are pinned to the September contract symbol — your master can keep filling on the new front month while your slave accounts sit silent. This is the rollover footgun, and it's one of the most common support issues we handle each quarter.
This guide is specific to the Q3 2026 roll. For the general quarterly process, see our Quarterly Futures Rollover Checklist for Trade Copier Users.
On contract codes: SyncFutures shows the symbol your broker reports. On Tradovate that's a single-digit year — you'll see
ESU6andESZ6in your copy rules, notESU26/ESZ26. Rithmic accepts either form. Charting sites and data vendors commonly write the two-digit form for the same contract. The format can vary by firm and broker, so the reliable move is always to match whatever your master account is actually filling.
What Happens to Your Copy Rules at Quarterly Rollover
SyncFutures copy rules are pinned to a specific contract symbol — for example, ESU6. When the market rolls to the December contract, your master account starts trading ESZ6. The copy rule looking for ESU6 signals gets no matches. Master fills, nothing copies.
There is no automatic contract rollover detection. The fix is manual: update the contract symbol in each affected copy rule from the September code to the December code. Once updated, copies resume immediately on the next master fill.

If you haven't updated your copy rules yet, do it before you start today's session.
Which Contracts Are Rolling This Quarter

| E-mini Nasdaq-100 | NQU6 → NQZ6 | NQU26 → NQZ26 |
| Micro E-mini S&P 500 | MESU6 → MESZ6 | MESU26 → MESZ26 |
| Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 | MNQU6 → MNQZ6 | MNQU26 → MNQZ26 |

| E-mini Russell 2000 | RTYU6 → RTYZ6 | RTYU26 → RTYZ26 |
Note: Crude oil (CL) and gold (GC) follow different roll schedules. If you trade CL or GC through a copy rule, verify your specific contract's next rollover date separately — those instruments roll more frequently than once per quarter.
How to Update Your Copy Rules in SyncFutures
- Open SyncFutures on web or mobile and navigate to your copy rules.
- Find every rule that references a September contract — look for the
Umonth code (ESU6,NQU6,MESU6,MNQU6,YMU6,MYMU6,RTYU6).Uis September;Zis December. - Update the symbol to the corresponding December contract — swap the
Ufor aZ, keeping the year digit. For example, changeESU6toESZ6. - Save the rule. The change takes effect immediately — the next fill on the master's December contract will copy.
- Repeat for every affected rule. The symbol lives on the rule itself, so one change covers every slave account under that rule — you don't update slaves one by one.
A rule you haven't touched in weeks can still carry the old symbol and will quietly stop working the moment your master rolls, so check every rule rather than only the ones you've been watching.
Don't Forget Resting Orders
If you have any resting limit or stop orders on the September contract (on either the master or slave accounts), cancel them after the roll. An order resting on the September contract won't fill against December price action, so it sits there doing nothing while you think you have coverage — worth clearing so what you see matches what's actually working.
One-click flatten in SyncFutures closes all positions and cancels pending orders simultaneously. If you want a clean slate entering the December contract, it's the fastest way to clear both at once.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SyncFutures automatically update copy rules at quarterly rollover?
No. Copy rules in SyncFutures are pinned to specific contract symbols. When the front month changes, the rule keeps looking for the old symbol. You need to update the symbol manually — it takes about 30 seconds per rule once you know which ones to change.
What if my copy rule missed fills during roll week because the symbol wasn't updated?
Update the symbol to the December contract and the rule will resume on the next master fill. There's no retroactive backfill of missed copies — those fills are gone — but the rule is fully functional again once the symbol is updated.
What are the exact December 2026 contract codes?
On Tradovate — where most SyncFutures prop accounts connect — the symbols carry a single-digit year: ESZ6 (E-mini S&P), NQZ6 (E-mini Nasdaq), MESZ6 (Micro S&P), MNQZ6 (Micro Nasdaq), YMZ6 (Dow), MYMZ6 (Micro Dow), RTYZ6 (Russell 2000). Z is always December. Rithmic accepts both one- and two-digit year forms, and charting sites usually write ESZ26, NQZ26 and so on — same contract, different notation. Match whatever your master account is actually filling.
How often does this happen?
Equity index futures roll quarterly — March, June, September, December. The rollover footgun hits the same traders every quarter. If you want a checklist you can reuse every roll, see our Quarterly Futures Rollover Checklist.
I'm running multiple prop firm accounts. Do I need to update each one separately?
Not per account. The contract symbol is set on the copy rule, and one rule can feed many slave accounts — so four funded accounts copying one master is normally a single rule with a single symbol to change. What multiplies rules is masters and symbols: if you run separate rules for ES and NQ, or more than one master account, each of those is its own rule to check.
If you're not using SyncFutures yet, you can connect your funded accounts and run a live session before paying anything. See plans and start a 7-day free trial at syncfutures.com/pricing.
